Baroque Concert – works of Dismas Zelenka (1679-1745) and Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767)
For this concert, we feature one of the best-known composers of the baroque period, Georg Philipp Telemann, but at the same time another unknown composer of the same period, who is just as important for the beauty and quality of his works, Dismas Zelenka.
Indeed, the Czech composer Zelenka left behind a very important work of extraordinary genius and emotional expression from a more introspective and passionate inspiration. Still little is known about this composer who deserves better recognition. On the other hand, Telemann is one of the most illustrious German composers of the baroque period and one of the most prolific of all time. He has left his mark on music of the first part of the 18th century, where by innovative ideas he contributed a great deal to the art of composition and musical sensitivity. His immense body of works covers all known musical genres of his time, but tonight’s program will have you discover jewels of his sacred music repertoire for chorus and orchestra.
